The Affair by Beth Kery Review

Available for the first time as a complete novel—the serial from the New York Times bestselling author that explores the dynamics of power and sex between two people who set the rules of desire…only to shatter them.
When unconventional hospice nurse Emma Shore secured a new position at the Breakers, the sprawling mansion of enigmatic and dangerously handsome racecar billionaire Michael Montand, she had no idea how soon she’d be drawn into his darker sexual games—or that it would be her own fantasies that would hold her captive.

Michael knew he shouldn’t have engaged such an innocent woman to share in his desires. But strong sexual appetites and selfishness run in his blood.

From Michael’s luxurious lakeside home to the sun-drenched, sensual shores of the French Riviera, Emma submits again and again to his intoxicating power. But she knows there is only one way to protect her heart.

The affair will continue, but under her conditions: Only she can end it, and when it’s over, they will part and never speak again of the things they dared to do behind locked doors.

MY THOUGHTS:
4/5 STARS

**Thank you Berkley for the ARC**

This was my first read by Beth Kery and I was pleasantly surprised. While it was an erotic book, there was just enough depth in the plot to dilute some of the sexy and give it that complete story feel.
It was definitely not your cliché erotic read. It had your typical sexy scenes that at times felt redundant, but there was always a twist or turn to keep you guessing. I was invested in the romance and fell hard for Vanni.

"It was nearly impossible to focus on her future pain when she was in the intoxicating clutches of falling in love."

Emma is a hospice nurse and Vanni is a billionaire. Both know death all too well and both let their pasts effect their present. Until they meet face to face, love is overlooked. When they are forced together in a professional setting, an intense sexual attraction is formed and they quickly find themselves desperate for one another. Emma wants to guard her heart though, so when he asks for more, she only agrees to a 5 week affair. After that she can choose to stay or walk away. As time passes, the romance grows fast and both feel as though they are in over their heads. Together they indulge in expensive gifts, bdsm sex, & a luxurious vacation to France. Emotions run deep and they become quite reliant on one another. Their relationship is push and pull and as secrets are revealed, their love is put to the test.

I devoured this book in just two sittings. The writing was on point and the flow was fast paced. I found myself sucked into the story and drawn to the characters. I think what made this book so good was the setting development. I felt like I was sipping on expensive wine, sitting seaside, reading this elegant story that was packed with secrets. It was really easy to picture the places the characters went and to feel the emotion pouring from the pages. I'm not a huge fan of erotica, but this one worked for me. I definitely recommend it to all readers that love European billionaires and a-whole-lotta sexy.

Fall Out Girl by L. Duarte

Imagine a social outcast: Me. (Luna)

Imagine a popular boy: Him. (Caleb)

Sound like the characters of a cliché story, right? Here, hold my hand. Come away with me. I’ll tell you my story, and you’ll decide.

But I have a warning: Proceed at your own risk. Since it’s a snippet of my life, I’m one of the main characters. And to put it lightly, I’m not the most likable person in the world, cue the earned label. Also, unlike fairy tales, my story is real with a dash of sorrow and loss.

How do I start? Once upon a time…? Shoot me now, please.

The beginning? No, too boring.

Well, let’s start with the catalytic moment that set in motion a chain of events that changed my life, yet again.

As for a happily ever after? Sorry, no spoilers here. You’re going to have to figure that one out on your own. After you read my tale, it becomes yours, and as such, you’re entitled to your interpretation.

So, off we go!

Fasten your seat belts. This ride may get bumpy.

MY THOUGHTS:
4.5/5 Stars
The storyline was amazing. The birds truly make the book. I loved the cute little additions that tied everything together. It leaned towards YA, but with edgy twists. It was about a girl that struggles to make ends meet. Her living arrangement is quite sad and her way of life is dark. When Caleb comes into her life she tries to keep her walls up and maintain a tough persona, but little by little he chips away the exterior to show a beautifully flawed Luna.

The love story was very unique and you will fall in love with the characters. They each had their own imperfections and that is what made them such a perfect couple. It wasn't always hearts and flowers, but in the end we learned that love surpasses all.

I think the Author did a great job at creating a one of kind story that sucks readers in and consumes them with emotions. The reason I wouldn't give it a solid five is because some of the wording and editing became sloppy at times.

Overall, I highly recommend this book to all readers that like darker YA reads.

The Catastrophic History of You and Me by Jess Rothenberg

An addictively page-turning debut for fans of Before I Fall and The Fault in Our Stars

Brie is the “biggest, cheesiest, sappiest romantic” who believes that everyone will find their perfect someone, so when Jacob, the love of Brie's life, tells her he doesn't love her anymore, the news breaks her heart, literally, and she dies. But now that she's D&G (dead and gone), Brie revisits the living world to discover that her family has begun to unravel and her best friend has been keeping an intimate secret about her boyfriend. Somehow, Brie must handle all of this while navigating through the five steps of grief with the help of Patrick, her mysterious bomber-jacketed guide to the afterlife. But how is she supposed to face the Ever After with a broken heart and no one to call her own?

I just finished this one and would definitely recommend it to young adult readers....
I usually enjoy YA, but this one border lined on being a tad too juvenile for me.
It played off of quirky parts and left out the romance I desired.
It's about a girl who is "Dead and Gone". She walks us through her life after death and also shows us what led up to that pivotal night.
When she reaches heaven she meets a boy and they instantly click. Together they go back to earth and give her ex a little dose of his own medicine. As their time together progresses Brie realizes that maybe there was more to her death than she thought.
Secrets are slowly revealed and the ending will leave your jaw on the ground!
I didn't expect the turn it took, but it added to the storyline for sure.

While the story was fast paced and intriguing... I think it is DEFINITELY for teens and not for a woman in her twenties. When I read that it was for fans of Before I Fall I thought I would enjoy, but this one fell short. The writing wasn't as mature in this one.
