Excerpt Event (Author Morgan Parker)

Today we have an Excerpt from Sick Day by Morgan Parker
Hope and Cameron made a five-year promise before college. Years pass and they never see each other again. But then one month before his planned wedding to Riley, Cameron looks outside and sees Hope in the pouring rain, watching him. Now, three years later, Cam has one day – a sick day on this last Friday of summer – to convince the one woman whose very existence breaths life into his lungs, that sometimes love like theirs actually does exist, and it’s that kind of love that lives forever, no matter how hard you fight to forget about it and move on. From the author of non friction and Hope, Sick Day follows one man’s day-long attempt to persuade the love of his life that sometimes it’s okay to break promises if it means keeping the ones that count.

Excerpt:
With just an inch or less to go for those doors to shut, there was another ding and the doors re-opened. I hadn’t pressed the button—wasn’t close enough to—but saw that Hope had pressed the Open button at the last possible instant. “Heading down, sir?” she asked with the polite tone of a complete stranger. “Thank you,” I said, blinking hard as my heart pounded under my chest. She held the door as I boarded, not acknowledging me. Even though there was nobody else on the elevator, I did the same and when I regained my bearings I noticed some sort of recognition on the receptionist’s face. Did she see the history between Hope and me? Could she sense the tension, the love, whatever the fuck this really was? Once the doors eased shut, Hope punched me in the arm. Hard. “What are you doing here?” she hissed, stepping closer to me, then shoving me backward against the elevator wall. It wasn’t an affectionate shove either. I fumbled for the right words. “I…I saw you…” She shoved me again, her lips tight and one mistake away from an outright, teeth-baring sneer. “He saw you! He fucking saw you!” “Hope,” I begged as she shoved me again. This time, I seized her wrists. She normally hated that, but this time, I pulled her hands down to her side, forcing her to step closer to me. Our bodies were so close, I swore I could feel her body heat radiating through mine. The wrist-restraining also calmed her down. I edged closer to her, our faces inches apart so that when I breathed, her hair danced gently around her jaw. “I see you,” I said. “I see you everywhere. I can’t stop seeing you.” I shook my head, averting my eyes for less than a second. When I found her again, her hands moved to my face. She was forceful—not quite hungry or desperate, but forceful—as she seized my face and pressed her lips against mine. My mouth opened for her tongue, and I tasted her. Whatever hunger was missing earlier suddenly surged through my body. It was the same awakening as when we kissed on the grass, arousing the realization that I had missed her without ever admitting to it.

Excerpt:
"You may be done, but I’m not,” Cam said. He then put my legs in an open position and stood on his knees in between. He took both my hands and wrapped them around his dick— which seemed to have grown inexplicably larger—then slid them up and down. It was still coated by the thick lubrication gifted from my cunt. I really did need two hands to handle that long, thick beast. I was prone on the floor, and, from above, it looked like a girthy pipe. It took much effort to traverse its awesome length. I was exhausted from the love that Cam had just given me and had to use the last bit of my energy to jerk him off. Hand over hand, I tugged up the shaft with alternating constricting and contracting movements. On the down strokes, I bottle-capped it with twisting movements. Cam steadied himself by placing his hands on my bent knees. “You like that?” I asked, watching his head rear back a bit. “Aw, shit, yeah. You’re the best,” Cam said. He rocked his body between my thighs in sync with my hand strokes. Then Cam let out a grunt as he bucked and seized. He drew in a breath through his clenched teeth. Like from a pressurized water hose, hot cum shot all over my chest and stomach—the milk of the gods. Cam’s release seemed to go on forever and wore him out.

My Thoughts:
5/5 Stars

This book is one of the most beautiful book I have ever read.
The concept was one of a kind and I fell in LOVE with Archer!!

Bree leaves her hometown to escape her past and when she ends up in a small town things start looking up. She makes friends with her neighbor, gets a job at a local diner, and comes face to face with the town's mystery... Archer Hale.

He instantly grabs her attention when he just stares at her, but never speaks. She tries to befriend him and at first... he pushes her away. When she learns he can't speak she tries another method and this time it works. Slowly they reveal their best kept secrets and embark on a romance like no other!

I was addicted from page one and the more I read, the more Archer consumed my heart. I absolutely loved how broken, yet strong he was. The way him and Bree connected was so beautiful. She was kind and sweet. He was loving and protective. Together they were a whirlwind of emotions.

I highly recommend this book to all readers!!

Excerpt Event (Author Cambria Hebert)

Today we have an Excerpt from TRYST by Cambria Hebert.

Sometimes all a girl needs is a little fling…

Talie Ronson needs a vacation.
From life.
Since she caught her cheating, loser husband in bed with his assistant, her life has been on a steady spiral—right into hell. Her car’s a junker, her job sucks, and her perfect, gorgeous sister likes to brag about her wonderful life every time they "do" lunch.
In an effort to salvage what’s left of her life and her sanity, she takes the advice of her kooky best friend and takes off to Topsail Island. A week at the beach, alone, is exactly what she needs to recharge, regroup, and relax.
Only, her alone time is about to get derailed.
Gavin Palmer’s favorite activity is walking around in his boxers and eating junk food. He and his neighbors have an understanding. They stay out of his business and he stays out of theirs. He lives at the beach, not for vacation, but for isolation. He’s had enough of people to last him a lifetime.
Gavin’s isolation is interrupted when his normally quiet neighbor starts disturbing his peace. He stomps across the sand to give the guy a piece of his mind… only it isn’t a guy.
It’s Talie.
She’d maddening, nosy, and talks too much.
But she’s hot and her bedroom eyes have him thinking maybe he’s had enough solitude. Maybe a week of company is exactly what he needs.
Maybe what they both need is a no-strings-attached tryst.

Excerpt:
Just as the road started to gradually lift and lead onto the bridge my car made a very loud clunking sound and then groaned like it was going to come apart at any second.

Even though my foot was pressed on the gas the car slowed considerably, idling along like a turtle who had no where it needed to be. "Come on!" I yelled at the dashboard as I gave the steering wheel a smack.

Suddenly the wheel seemed extremely hard to steer. What usually was an easy, effortless task now seemed like something that required large muscles.
Did I mention I was lacking in the muscle department?

I applied the brakes and fought the Jetta to the side of the road. I wasn’t about to try and make it over the bridge like this. My luck I would plunge over the side and get eaten by a shark when I hit the water.

The loud rattling sounds the stupid car made drowned out the cadence of the ocean waves and caused some of the peace I was found on my way here to disappear.

After several long moments of just sitting there, leaning my forehead on the steering wheel and asking God why I was cursed I turned off the engine. The car stuttered and then died. I knew it wasn’t going to turn back on.
"And the hits just keep on coming," I said out loud.

I opened the car door, letting it open so that the light would stay on for a few moments and bent down to look for the hood release latch. After I found it and popped the hood I stood there staring down in the dark at the insides of a car I couldn’t see.
Then I remembered my phone. The flashlight app was handy in moments like this. Even with the engine and innards of the car visible I had no clue what was wrong with it.
"I am so getting a new car," I sighed. I called up the number to Triple A in my phone (I might not know how to fix cars but I knew how to call people who did) and wondered how long it would take them to send a tow.

A pair of headlights appeared traveling in my direction. I raced around the side of the car and leapt into the driver’s seat, slamming the door behind me. After the way this week was going I would not be surprised at all if the person behind the wheel of that car was a serial killer out looking for his next victim.
The car slowed and pulled directly behind my car.
See? Total serial killer.
I heard the slam of the door and watched as a large dark figure approached. I could make out nothing because his headlights turned him into nothing but a dark shadow.

The only thing I knew for sure was that it was a man. Unless of course it was a woman. Judging from the sheer size of the black shape if it was a then she would have to be a professional body builder.

Seconds later a darkened face appeared at my window.

"Car trouble?" he rumbled. His voice was deep and his southern accent was strong.
I screamed.
I forgot my window was down!
I jammed the key back into the ignition and turned the engine over. It made a puny, pathetic sound and stalled out. The windows were electric. I couldn’t get it up if the car wouldn’t start.
"Please don’t kill me!" I burst out.
A laugh floated through the night air and wrapped around my body. He put one of his hands on the door, so that it rested where the window should be, his fingers falling down the inside of the door.

I snatched the keys out of the ignition and swung down to stab the fleshy part of the back of his hand. Seconds before I made him bleed he jerked away.
"I’m not going to murder you!" he shouted.
"Don’t you yell at me!" I retorted.

"You tried to stab me!"

"You tried to kill me!"

"I stopped to see if you needed help. You know, because your junker car here stopped working."
"How dare you call it a junker." I fumed. My car definitely was a junker but I wasn’t about to let him insult me. I’d had enough of men to last me a lifetime.
"Sweetheart, I call it like I see it." he drawled.

Damned if I didn’t get goose bumps. His voice was like the velvet sky I was admiring only moments ago. "Well, okay, it’s a piece of crap." I allowed. Obviously his southern accent was making me stupid.
"I’m just going to take a look," he said. Before I could tell him no he was walking around the front of my car. The glow of his headlights gave me a glimpse of the way his hips rotated when he walked.
He had long legs, the kind that owned the ground whenever he took a step. He was tall… he had to be at least six two. Other than that I couldn’t make out anything else about him. He was wearing a baseball hat and it was pulled down low, shading all of his face from the little light out here.

A light clicked on up front (he must have the same app as me) and I saw him reaching down into the engine. The sound of something being pulled out of the car had me leaping out of my seat and rushing around the front.

"What the hell are you doing!" I demanded horrified as he pulled out this long black thing. "Is that a snake?" I shrieked. Had I somehow run over that giant thing and it got caught in my engine?

He paused and looked up at me. "A snake?" he asked like he couldn’t understand what I was saying. Then he shook his head. "It’s the drive belt," he muttered, going back to pulling it out.

"Well if it’s supposed to be in there why are you pulling it out?"
"This way when I go to kill you, I know you won’t be able to get away."

Monster in his Eyes by J.M. Darhower Review

Ignazio Vitale is not a good man.

I suspect it, the first time I see him, sense the air of danger that surrounds the man. He has a way of commanding attention, of taking control, of knowing what I'm thinking before I even do.

It's alarming and alluring. It's dark and deadly. It's everything I've ever wanted but the last thing I truly need. Obsession.

It doesn't take him long to draw me into his web, charming me into his bed and trapping me in his life, a life I know nothing about until it's too late. He has secrets, secrets I can't fathom, secrets that make it so I can't walk away, no matter how much I beg him to let me go. I see it sometimes in his eyes, a darkness that's both terrifying and thrilling. He's a monster, wrapped up in a pretty package, and what I find when I unmask him changes everything.

I want to hate him.

Sometimes, I do.

But it doesn't stop me from loving him, too.

AUTHOR'S NOTE: This book is intended for a mature audience only, due to some dark and erotic content.

My Thoughts...
5/5 Stars

J.M. Darhower did it again! Another fantastic book with a gripping storyline.

Karissa is an average college girl with average worries... grades, what to wear?, a protective mother. She also has a troubled past though. Her father left at an early age, leaving her slightly damaged. When she meets Naz her world is turned upside down. She loves him, yet hates him.... is scared of him, yet seeks him for protection. Together they embark on an intense erotic ride. What happens when secrets are revealed though?? What happens if Naz isn't who she thought he was??

I loved the intensity and need in this book. The characters had this addiction to one another that was all consuming. Naz was a total book boyfriend! He was dark, mysterious, controlling, and sexy as ....!

I usually don't like books with tons of sex scenes, but this book worked! There was definitely enough outside story to keep me drawn in and wanting more. I can't stress enough how much I loved both characters! Karissa was charming & Naz was well... Naz.

I knew there was something up, but I never expected the ending.
Can't wait for the next book!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Sempre by JM Darhower Review

A sexy ebook about two seventeen-year-olds—one a victim of human trafficking; the other the son of the man who enslaved her—who fall in love and question everything they ever believed…

Haven Antonelli and Carmine DeMarco grew up under vastly different circumstances. Haven, a second-generation slave, was isolated in the middle of the desert, her days full of hard work and terrifying abuse. Carmine, born into a wealthy Mafia family, lived a life of privilege and excess.

Now, a twist of fate causes their worlds to collide. Entangled in a web of secrets and lies, they learn that while different on the surface, they have more in common than anyone would think.

In a world full of chaos, where money and power rule, Haven and Carmine yearn to break free, but a string of events that began before either of them were born threatens to destroy them instead. Murder and betrayal are a way of life, and nothing comes without a price—especially not freedom. But how much will they have to sacrifice? Can they escape their pasts? And, most of all, what does it mean to be free?

5 HUGE STARS OUT OF 5

This book was unlike anything I have ever read before. It gave me butterflies, made my heart race, and left me with a huge book hangover.

Haven is living in hell. Her mama always tells her to get out and when she does, she gets caught. She is taken to an unknown home that occupies a man and his two boys. She has no idea what to expect... The man is nice, yet mean. He wants to be kind, yet he wants to hurt her. She is scared and when the sons befriend her she is not sure what to think.

Carmine is the typical popular, bad boy with a major attitude. He hooks up with many girls and can't get through a day of school without trouble. He is intrigued by Haven and can't accept what she went through. The more he learns, the more he wants to protect her.

Together they embark on an emotional rollercoaster of first love and forbidden love.

The Author is now on my list of Favorite Authors of All Time!! The storyline pulls you in and doesn't let you out. I found myself wanting to read for hours and never put it down. While it was dark and emotional, it brought light and hope. I was so twisted up in this story and the characters that I found myself talking to the book. There were parts that gutted me, parts that made me swoon, and parts that made me think what in the .... is going to happen. When I finished, I  immediately needed book 2.

I highly recommend this book!
Please keep in mind that it is a dark read with an unconventional romance.

Add it on Goodreads

Excerpt:
With Christmas right around the corner, Ivy reluctantly ventured out to pick up presents for her family and friends. She would have preferred to stay in her flat to watch re-runs of the Vicar of Dibley. She had been half-way through the holiday’s specials. Squeezing between a group gathered outside Harvey Nichols, Ivy made her way into the store and rode the escalator to the second floor. She tuned out the couple in front of her who were arguing about what to purchase for their son. She tried to map out her shopping plans in her mind, hoping to save time and get her away from the happy shoppers as quickly as bloody possible. As she stepped off the escalator, an explosion on the first floor rocked the entire building to its foundation. The lights overhead flickered several times as ceiling tiles fell and shattered on the ground in front of her. Ivy ducked her head quickly to avoid the dust and debris in the air. Gunfire followed the explosion and sent everyone into a mass of swirling panic. A passing stranger in the fray knocked Ivy to the floor. Crawling through the swarming chaos to hide behind a nearby perfume counter, she noticed a cabinet large enough for her to squeeze her petite frame inside. She dove in and slid the door shut. The shouts and screams seemed to continue forever, though her watch told her it had been ten minutes at most. Ivy turned her phone on silent and sent a quick text to a friend who had been in Alec’s unit. She didn’t dare place a call, but someone had to let the authorities know there were survivors in the store. For now. After several tense moments of waiting, Ivy pulled her phone back out to frantically check the news. It was impossible to know how long the cabinet would remain safe though moving didn’t seem like that good of an idea either. Her friend texted a response to say the police were on their way, and she should do her best to avoid detection. Avoid detection. Very bloody helpful. She already knew that much. Alec had been a military man. They’d known each other long before University. He proposed during their second year there. Over four happy years of marriage. He had made sure to teach her the basics of self-defence and security awareness. Not for the first time in two years, Ivy missed him so much her heart ached. Ivy sat in the cramped cupboard for close to an hour when she realised that she desperately needed the loo. Bugger. She couldn’t risk it, could she? The restrooms were directly across from where she was hiding. Another ten minutes passed. It was time to try to either run for the loo or piss herself. Deciding she didn’t relish sitting in her own urine (not very pleasant), she cautiously eased the door open and waited for any signs of the armed men. She didn’t know if the silence was comforting or terrifying. Keeping low to the ground, Ivy crawled along the floor. It brought back memories of watching her husband when he had been training young recruits. She could hear his deep voice in her head describing the best and quietest way to low-crawl. She made it into the loo without being seen. She finished her business as her mother liked to call it. The difficult decision now was whether to stay in the toilets or make her way back to the little cubbyhole. She glanced around the room with an assessing eye. If the terrorist bastards decided to come inside, there was nowhere to hide effectively from them. Back to the cupboard. Definitely. Retracing her route across the floor seemed somehow more daunting as Ivy started to make her move. She was halfway to her cupboard when a strong hand grabbed the back of her coat and lifted her off the ground. His other hand clamped around her mouth to muffle the scream she’d been about to utter. He dragged her backwards into what appeared to be a staff locker room. Bugger. Oh, bloody hell. The second he had her backed into the staff room, Ivy went from passive captive to violently struggling to escape. She had no intention of going without some sort of a fight. His hands pinned her arms to her side and crushed her back against his body. She closed her eyes and waited for the knife or gunshot she knew was bound to come; the irony of dying two days before Christmas was not lost on her. She tried desperately not to fidget. She realized after a moment that she hadn’t actually felt a weapon at any point. In fact, the hands holding her while firm were also very gentle. Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Ivy was surprised at how good the man smelled; he reminded her of dark chocolate and something exotically spicy. She told her mind and body to behave themselves. She would not lust over a perfect stranger who was probably about to murder her. Why the hell hasn’t he done something yet?

My Thoughts:

Fans of the Breathing Series by Rebecca Donovan will love this book!!

I honestly cannot utter enough praise about this book. It had me an emotional mess... I went from having butterflies in my stomach to tears in my eyes.

The story is about a young girl who experienced a life changing event that involved her mother. She goes from the popular girl with the popular boyfriend to the outcast.
When she meets mysterious, bad boy Noah... her eyes are opened to life again. Together they try to uncover the secrets of their pasts and while doing so they fall head over heels for each other. It is an emotional ride though. There is romance, mystery, and heart break.

The storyline and writing were terrific. I highly recommend!

Lick by Kylie Scott Review

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.
Evelyn Thomas's plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man in her room, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is certain, being married to one of the hottest rock stars on the planet is sure to be a wild ride.

My Thoughts:
4.5/5 Stars

I loved every bit of this book. It was fun, sexy, emotional, and romantic.

It is every girl's fantasy to wake up with a huge rock on your left ring finger and a rock star in your bed. This book is about just that...
Evelyn has a wild 21st birthday that leads her to Rock Legend David Ferris.
When she wakes up married to him she can't remember a single thing from the night before. She wants it all to go away and heads home where she is greeted by paparazzi and fans. When it all becomes too much she decides to take up David's offer to live with him for a bit.
They try to figure out the annulment papers, but begin to fall for one another.

This book was a page turner! I'm not much for Rock Star romances, but this one balanced both worlds perfectly. The built up romance was great and the little details added life to the story.

I highly recommend this book!

Unattainable by Madeline Sheehan Review

Warning: This is not a virtuous and tender love story. It’s chaotic, ruthless, and tragic. This story takes love and kills its innocence, steals away the pure moments, and crushes the hearts of the broken. A story born in childhood, tying one girl to one boy, leads to a destructive path—that hurts more than it doesn’t, that shatters more than it heals—testing the love that binds the two through a lifetime.

Tegen Matthews is the daughter of Dorothy Kelley, a club whore in the Hell’s Horsemen. A plain little girl, Tegen falls into the gritty world of the motorcycle club. When she meets a sweet, caring boy, she embraces the warmth and affection he shows her. Cage West is the son of the president of the Hell’s Horsemen. Tall and blond with deep brown eyes, as he grows up Cage realizes the power of his dimpled smile and smooth drawl. With one chance encounter, Tegen becomes forever tied to Cage. Following is a wayward journey that is filled with regrets, mistakes, and heartache, pulling at the threads that hold them together. Cage and Tegen fight hard but love harder, and in the end, what matters is where the journey takes one girl and one boy, who have been twined with one another since the beginning.

This is Tegen and Cage’s story.

Love doesn’t erase a broken heart, and it sure doesn’t change people. But no matter how old, how flimsy, how frayed the rope of love is, it keeps you tethered to the people you love.

My Thoughts:
4/5 Stars

Tegan & Cage Who?? I have one word for this book... DIRTY!
There are two different stories... Tegan & Cage's and Dirty & Ellie. When it came to the first couples story I skimmed. There was a lot going on and quite frankly it didn't suck me in...

Now Dirty's story was compelling, heart wrenching, & AMAZING!
You must know  though, that he is not flowers & romance. He is damaged and messed up. When he stumbles across Ellie he can't help but protect her. At first he tries to keep her at arms length, but she moves in closer and closer. Slowly he lets his guard down and together they face his demons.

I felt Dirty deserved a whole book because there was so much more that could have happened. He was raw and I loved it!

The writing was excellent & I highly recommend it.

Vital Sign by J.L. Mac Review

I used to have a great life. My little world was bright. I had no complaints. My perfectly simple life made the fall from grace that much more devastating. I plummeted from the heavenly little bubble that I shared with Jake. I fell fast and hard straight into the fiery pits of hell. The knowledge of how things used to be is a bittersweet torture that refuses me even one moment of respite. I live in a painful reverie that I can’t escape.
I had it good once.
That’s gone now.
All of it disappeared like vapor into the ether. I’m a lost woman, wandering through grief and struggling to come to terms with my new title: widow. My family says I need understanding and closure. I say a cigarette and a bottle of wine is a much better option for instant gratification.
I’m the awkward, depressed one standing in the corner making everyone around me miserably uncomfortable. I’m the one with vacant eyes that society strives to help but can’t. I’m the one who hands out tight smiles and derisive snorts. I’m the widow adrift in this world with no direction. No meaning. No hope. No vital sign.

***

Sadie sets out on a journey to healing without knowing that things will get far worse before they get better. Despite her general indifference to organ donation, she finds herself on a journey to seek out the only people who benefited from her husband’s tragic death.
Resentment runs rampant as she meets the thriving organ recipients. Anger and jealousy spiral, sending the delicate structure of Sadie’s emotions into a tailspin.
Alexander McBride got a second chance—one that he didn’t necessarily want. Alexander is a game changer for Sadie. She hates him for his health but can’t help feeling at home in his presence. He soothes her grief in a way that is intoxicating, addictive even.
The heart that once fell in love with her now resides in Alexander McBride’s chest. It’s a circumstance that forces her to wage an internal war fueled by grief, anger, guilt, love, lust, and loyalty.
Sadie must discover the things that are vital to going on with her life if she has any hope of finding her way through the all-consuming grief that dominates every waking moment.

I wanted to love this one, but sadly for me ... it fell short.

The beginning was great! I was consumed with emotions and I felt everything Sadie did. I was scared to sleep at night and I replayed the break in over and over again. However when you she sets off to meet the people who received organs, I didn't feel as connected. She never asked questions about what happened or how the organ impacted their families and I just didn't feel it.

When she met Alexander I was pulled back in. You can see hints of her beginning to live again. Her chats with the Inn owner were emotional and real, which I loved!

Once we find out the truth about Alexander I was a goner. The normal, hot guy was now a state celebrity. His appeal went out the door. The ending felt rushed and once I closed the book I didn't think about it again.

Like I said before, I wanted to love this one as much as I loved the Author's other work... I just didn't.
While the writing was really good... The storyline lacked the depth to keep my interest through the entire book.
